How does it work?
Dorian offers a form of integrative psychotherapy that incorporates multiple therapeutic modalities and takes the whole person into consideration to provide safe, person-centered and empowerment-based mental health support.
“My unique style of psychotherapy aligns with the intelligence of your naturally unfolding process to support compassionate awareness, embodied integration and self discovery in the context of challenge, disconnection or uncertainty.
Many human beings begin life with an embodied connection to their Essence (Self Energy or Soul). I understand human functioning and wellbeing as arising from the complex interplay between internal and external influences that either enhance or interrupt this connection. For children and adolescents, there is a specific emphasis on the significance of safe attachment (and relationship) on brain/ nervous system development and therefore mental health and wellbeing. I believe that for all human beings, the capacity to enter into meaningful and compassionate relationship with one’s self (including all parts) is the doorway to healing, self discovery and wellbeing. My work aims to support this process through the restoration of embodied connection to one’s internal world (psyche), with an emphasis on tracking, sitting with and unfolding emerging processes within a field of safety and compassion. Whether it’s a challenge, disturbance or wound from the past or present, I aim to support you to transform and integrate marginalised experiences, emotions & parts of self through the power of their own wisdom, expression and worth.
My work aims to facilitate a robust foundation for mental/emotional wellbeing by addressing issues at their root, while employing tools, strategies and interventions that support internal safety and compassion, healthy coping and distress tolerance, nervous system and emotion regulation, healthy attachment & relational dynamics, as well as greater self worth, meaning & purpose. My goal is to support children, adolescents and adults to become integrated human beings who are meaningfully connected to themselves and the world around them.”
Some of the tools and understandings that underpin this work are:
Process work/ process-oriented Psychotherapy: Unfolding whatever naturally presents itself in the moment through multiple channels of experiential awareness, presence and expression. This can include emotion focussed process facilitation through movement, somatic work, parts work, role-play and conflict work.
This can also include trauma work to witness marginalized aspects/parts, validate their experience, facilitate the expression of their pain and address their un-met needs.
Interpersonal Neurobiology: Interpersonal neurobiology, developed by Dr Dan Siegel, brings together all schools of modern scientific thought to provide a comprehensive understanding and roadmap of parenting and child development that emphasises the role of attachment and relationship in shaping brain & nervous system development.
Meditative Practices: Grounded in unconditional self-compassion, acceptance and awareness, meditative and breath-work practices work multidimensionally with the body & psyche to facilitate present moment awareness, grounding as well as nervous system & emotion regulation.
Other Psychotherapy Modalities: Drawing on a wide range of tools, strategies and techniques from Emotion Focussed Therapy, Internal family Systems, Attachment-based therapies, play therapy, mindfulness-based therapies, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and risk management tools.
